Application analysis of color proofing (Part 2)

* digital contract samples

digital contract samples directly come from digital page files (electronic mechanism), without producing a set of films. The quality of digital proofing equipment has been improved to the extent that many kinds of equipment can be used to produce contract samples. When the printing industry is getting closer to the workflow of "no film", some manufacturers are producing digital proofing equipment. These proofing equipment can compete with analog systems and can completely simulate the effect of halftone dots. The digital system has some well-known benefits, including saving time, materials and workload, and using the same accurate digital information in the design, proofing and plate making steps of the process

regardless of the font, a digital color sample used for the contract sample must have some general characteristics of the printing process, so as to simulate the appearance effect of the printed sample. The manufacturer has provided a control system to make the matching process easier. The user is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the matching purpose is achieved. The stability of the digital proofing system lies in the regular accurate calibration and the use of color block control bars for each sample. The digital color verification data shall be managed by the database. The color sample sheet shall also be attached with a sheet identifying the name of the proofing product used

in the whole printing industry, there have been some problems with digital proofing. The most important one is:

* can the digital sample achieve the effect of the analog contract sample

* compared with the final printed sample, can the customer's requirements be met on the digital sample

to answer this question, we must consider the following variables:

* rip

will the rip of the digital proofing machine interpret the file in the same way as the rip output by the digital printing plate? What is the best form of rip: software or hardware? Hardware Rip is often not considered, because compared with software rip, which can be used in a variety of device states, the use environment is generally fixed

* file format

for a long time, because of incorrect or complex nested files, many error codes will appear in the rip process. The latest rip has the ability to handle a variety of file formats, including the co portable file format PDF

* point and non-point

many digital proofing techniques do not produce samples with separation points. These digital systems can produce half tone samples, but when imaging on a printing plate, they can not produce points with accurate size or shape, and there is no accurate point angle. Because of these unfavorable factors, most digital proofing systems cannot predict the moire problem and the resolution of the point angle and point shape on the printing plate. In some cases, offline samples (digital samples and analog samples) can not predict the results of these problems only because of their resolution

* hue matching

the color ranges of different proofing techniques, or color gamut and printing process, can overlap each other, but often do not match. The gamut part, or technology, produced by the proofing equipment often falls outside the gamut that may be duplicated by the printing four-color reproduction process. Color management tools are very important for color prediction of various output media. Many technical improvements in color management and correction tools have greatly promoted the ability of digital proofing equipment to output contract high-quality samples. For more details, see the color management section

* remote digital proofing

the hottest topic in proofing is the ability to send digital files to remote sites for proofing equipment or Remote Proofing output. Three basic conditions are required for successful Remote Proofing:

1) the method of transferring files from point a to point B

2) reliable and stable proofing system

3) method of controlling calibration and predicting color accuracy on remote station

remote digital proofing requires general users to study and implement, which may be a complex process. Some manufacturers are providing solutions to complete remote proofing. Their direction is to provide users with such solutions: all problems in the most widely used types of conventional plastic granulator equipment are handled by a company, which will act as an intermediary and contact between customers and several possible service providers

when proofing mixed colors, you must understand the relevant change factors, whether digital proofing or analog proofing. Some manufacturers provide users with page by page book type chromatography. They have their own color mixing system to produce four-color overprint or field spot color. However, we should know that the service life of these chromatograms is generally not long, because the color of ink or paper will fade over time. If we choose a color on the computer screen, remember that the color should appear in the form of RGB, not in the form of CMYK or field color, pre mixed ink. Paste a torn color block on the living part. When using primary color to simulate mixed color, the change factors of printing press and general printing press should be considered. In this way, the mixed color at one position on the sample may not match accurately with other positions. That is to say, the color reproduction effect of the off-line sample will be different from that of the printer sample, so that a unique mixed color will have the same color feeling. Another variable to consider in is paper. The image may be proofed on a substrate different from the paper of the printing press. For more information, see the local color ink section

remember that color proofs are a means of communication when organizing pages, so no matter what changes the proofs have, the purpose of using them is to avoid mistakes that may lead to expensive waste. The observation of the sample should be controlled under the light source of 5000K
